2. Roborodentia Club is Looking Game Designers

Think you have what it takes to design next year’s Roborodentia challenge? Help the Roborodentia Club create their robotics competition for 2017. Here are the requirements:
-Experience with robotics contests in the past, such as participation in Roborodentia, FRC, or FLL (preferred)
-Interest in how competitions are designed is highly recommended.
-Knowledge of robot building and basic construction may be helpful

Interested? Come to building 20A at 5pm on Monday 10/3 and find out how to get involved

3. Upcoming WISH Events

Mentor / Mentee Bonfire
When: Saturday, October 1st, 6:30pm - 9pm
Where: Grover Beach

Come meet up your WISH Mentor or Mentee at the first WISH Bonfire! Hang out, eat s'mores, mingle, and get to know your Mentor/Mentee as well as other members of WISH! If you do not have a Mentor and would like one, this is the perfect opportunity to find one! MENTORS: Invite your Mentee if you haven't already! Invite them to the WISH Facebook group too! CSC Dept. Tutoring  Center

Cal Poly's Computer Science Department offers tutoring, free of charge, for all students taking CSC courses. We offer help on all scheduled evenings for students in CSC/CPE 101, 102, 103, or 141. We also do our best to cater to the demand of 357. If you need help outside of class and your professor's office hours, the tutoring service is for you.

Tutoring is offered in 14-302 from Sunday through Thursday, 7-9pm except for holidays starting Sunday, September 25. Please be prompt. If no students are present within the first 15 minutes, the tutors will leave.

4. EWB Announcements

We will be having our first general meeting this Monday from 6-8 pm at Chumash Auditorium. We will also be hiking the Avila Ridge 1 pm on Sunday.

Meetings

First General Meeting (9/26)
Come to our first meeting of the year Monday 6-8 pm at Chumash Auditorium (located in the UU)! We will be talking about what EWB is, our project teams, as well as some activities we have planned for this quarter. FREE pizza will be provided. We will also be signing people up to be members. The fee will be $20 for freshman and transfers and $25 for all others interested. With the fee, you will receive this year's EWB t-shirt. We will also be selling EWB hats for $20 and tank tops for $15.

Our first project team meetings are coming up October 3rd Monday from 7-9 pm.

5. RFID Club

Club description: The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) club is a multidisciplinary club that perform RFID projects.  RFID is a rapidly growing technology which has many uses including consumer interactive marketing, embedded electronics, inventory tracking, access control, and counterfeit prevention. Many top companies have some sort of RFID within their business structure or products. As a CPE, you play a huge role working with both the hardware and the software side. Joining RFID is a great way to practice what you’ve learned in class and apply to many practical projects from industries. We also offer many opportunities to mingle with industry. We are currently seeking individuals with coding and electronics knowledge to help with our many projects.

6. First Data Science Meeting

Where: 14-249
When: Tuesday Oct. 4, 11:00am-12:00pm

Do you want to know how mixing computer science and statistics can create huge impacts? If so, come to our meetings on Tuesdays at 11am! We’ll explore subjects such as statistical analysis, AI, quantitative finance, web scraping, natural language processing, data mining, database modeling, data pipelines, and more throughout the year.

Our first speaker this quarter will be Andrew Schaffner, the advisor for statistics majors pursuing the Data Science minor. He will be presenting an overview of data science and the Data Science minor.

7. Mobile App Development Club Upcoming Developments

Mobile App Development Club: iOS Workshop 1

When: Monday, 3rd October, 6-7pm
Where: 26-106 (Graphic Arts)
Joe will start with an introduction to the Swift Programming Language and you will actually have a working app by the end of the night! No previous experience required.
This will be a peer-programming event, so those without Macs can still participate. For those with Macbooks, please install Xcode 8 from the Mac App Store prior to the workshop. If you don’t have a Mac, they can be rented out from the Library 24-hour computer lab.

Mobile App Development Club: Android Workshop 1

When: Thursday, 6th October, 6-7pm
Where: 26-106 (Graphic Arts)
Kris will start with an introduction to the project structure of an Android app and you will actually have a working app by the end of the night! No previous experience required.
Please install Android Studio before you arrive.


For both workshops, officers will be there early and stay late for those with questions or needing extra help. Please check our website - http://polyappdev.club - for helpful resources both before and after the workshop.

8. Sigma Phi Delta Recruitment

Sigma Phi Delta will be hosting its recruitment week from October 3rd to the 7th. The events showcased will feature plenty of opportunities to meet new people and become familiar with the organization. Also, being part of Sigma Phi Delta has scholarship opportunities as well.

9. Computing Career Fair

Mark your calendars for the Computing Career Fair, which is happening October 11 in Chumash Auditorium (University Union, Building 63) from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. This open forum offers you the chance to network with employers who are recruiting for full-time, co-op, and/or internship opportunities.  Over 60 companies are expected to attend, including some who are making their first visit to Cal Poly such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Mercedes-Benz, and Andreessen Horowitz.  Visit the MustangJOBS page to see the full list, which will continue to be updated as new companies register.

10. Northrop Grumman On-Campus Recruiting

Northrop Grumman will not be participating in large career fairs, but instead hosting an event on 10/5 to meet with and recruit students for both intern and full-time hire. They will be in the engineering plaza from 10-2 on Wednesday October 5 with Powell's Candy and therapy dogs, as well as hiring managers ready to talk with students.

Flyers will be coming in the next couple days, but make sure to mark your calendar so you are prepared.

11. On-Campus Part-Time Job

12. Kaiser Permanente’s Technical Rotation Program – Now Accepting Applicants!

The Technical Rotation program is two years in duration and includes four rotations within various IT departments. Technical Associates in the program are able to gain experience/exposure to new and emerging technologies, build relationships, and execute on work that advances Kaiser Permanente’s mission. Do you want to make a difference by teaching science to the next generation?
All junior and senior science and engineering majors can apply now for $10,000 Science Noyce Scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year (NSF DUE 1340110).

Applications are due online on Friday Oct 7.

Scholarship recipients must:
Commit to teach science for two years in a high need K-12 school district
Participate in monthly Noyce Seminars during 2016-17 and 2017-18
Participate in STEM Teacher and Researcher Program (STAR) or equivalent paid “teacher-researcher” opportunity prior to completion of science teaching credential
