5. Join the Cal Poly Data Science Club
When: Tuesday (11/03) from 11am-12pm
Where: Building 180 (Baker Science), Room 102
The Cal Poly Data Science Club is welcoming new or
experienced students to join us at our second club meeting! We will begin
forming teams to compete in various Kaggle data science competitions. Our goal
is to bring together students of different backgrounds to learn and experience
data science.
What is data science?
Data Science is an emerging field that lies at the
intersection of statistics, computer science, and business. Data scientists
analyze very large data sets by using languages like R, Python, and Hadoop to
obtain a deeper understanding of the data.
Questions? More Information? Please contact Jeff Ernst at
jrernst@calpoly.edu.

6. Learn How to Join the Engineering Ambassadors!
On November 9th and 12th, there will be information
sessions on how to become an Engineering Ambassador. The Engineering
Ambassadors is a club that works closely with the Engineering Dean’s office to provide
lab tours of the College of Engineering. Attendees of these tours range from
prospective students to alumni and VIP guests who contribute greatly to our
engineering program. If you would like to join a great team which represents
your college, please attend an information session on 11/9 or 11/12 in room
197-104 at 8:00 pm. The information sessions will provide you with more
information on the club, the application process, and an opportunity to sign up
for an interview, as well as pizza. Applications will be made available
to those who are unable to attend either meeting, but attendance will give you
a better idea of what your role as an engineering ambassador will be, which
will benefit you during your one-on-one discussion with an Engineering Ambassadors
executive board member.
For more information please email cp.eng.amb@gmail.com.
