2. State of Diversity
Events 2019 – 2020
The next "State of”
event of the academic year is State of Indigeneity on Thursday, November 7th.
These events focus on creating a broad understanding of the state of diversity
on campus, and will feature a panel discussion of students, faculty, and staff
moderated by Interim Associate Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. See
flyer for the full schedule of events this year.

6. Upcoming Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club (CPARC) Activities

The SLO Ultra running festival
and run is in need of Ham radio operators! This event is at Lopez Lake, and is
in need of Ham operators to operate at aid stations. These are very fun events,
and volunteer positions are crucial. If you are not experienced, do not worry!
This is a great opportunity to learn about radio operation and event
coordination! If you are
interested in helping out on either of these days:

TRANSMITTER HUNT
Saturday, November 9th
Mark your calendars! Our fall
transmitter hunt is a few weeks away! During this event, you will get to use
specialized radio antennas to locate hidden transmitters on campus! Not even a
Ham license, let alone radio experience, is needed to participate in this
event, as only receiving is needed and we’ll teach you everything you need to
know.

Sanmina PCB Tour

Friday, November 8
Join us on for an IEEE exclusive plant tour of Sanmina Corporation at their headquarters in San Jose, California. On this tour, you get to see first-hand the entire PCB fabrication process (from customer design and specs to the final product). Sanmina is one of the world’s largest PCB and backplane manufacturing companies. Participating in this tour will require you to leave Cal Poly for the entirety of Friday, so please advise your professors about your absence should you wish to attend.
Sign up here then visit the IEEE Collaboration Lab and pay a $20 deposit to guarantee your spot on the tour. The deposit will be returned to you upon returning from the tour.
Rides will also be available from Cal Poly to San Jose as well as the journey back. For more information about the tour, please contact Nathan Wang at nwang08@calpoly.edu.

The Writing and Learning
Center supports academic achievement by providing peer-to-peer learning
opportunities in a welcoming environment. All students are encouraged to engage
in free individual and small-group tutoring sessions with trained undergraduate
and graduate consultants on any activity, assignment, or exam. Writing and
subject-specific peer consultations are available in multiple locations across
campus with the main hub in Kennedy Library, Room 111C.

our projects require any prior technical experience, and they are all looking

This
quarter for our QDP we are designing adaptive video game controllers for
individuals with disabilities.

you’re interested in joining this project, just come to our meeting this
Tuesday at 6:10 in the QL+ Lab and we’ll add you to a team.

Cybathlon (Exoskeleton) Project
We
are working on engineering an exoskeleton for a local Cuesta College student
named Tamar, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
If
you’re interested in getting involved with this project, attend the Cybathlon
meetings every Thursday 6:10-8:00 in the QL+ Lab.

16. CSU Sacramento Master’s Degree |
Fall 2020
Deadline: March 1, 2020
Master students needed for an NSF-funded project at California State
University, Sacramento
This targets senior students and recent graduates
who are interested in doing a Master degree in Computer Science or Engineering
at Sac State. Note that although the selected students will not enroll in the
Master program until Fall 2020, they will be able to start working on the
project immediately as non-student research assistants for up to 19.5 hours per
week.
