3. Upcoming SWE Activities

Volunteer Sign-Ups- Monthly Mentors: Middle & Elementary Outreach

Come be a part of the new SWE outreach program starting this year!  Monthly Mentors is designed to reach disadvantaged students, specifically the children of migrant workers in the area. With this program we are exposing students to multiple engineering disciplines, through hands-on activities and one-on-one mentorships. We are looking for volunteers who are excited about engineering and want to work with elementary or middle school students. We’ll have a general interest meeting at the beginning of the school year.

HeforSWE

Are you looking for ways to get involved as an ally to women in STEM? If so, HeForSWE is the event for you! Everyone is welcome to come and participate. On March 6th, Cal Poly SWE is hosting HeForSWE's second event of the year. HeForSWE will take place right after the SWE General Meeting in Bonderson 104, and dessert will be provided. We have invited students and engineers from other organizations, so bring your friends and join in on the fun!

IMPACT [EWB Volunteering Team] | Wednesdays | Library – 216M | 3pm – 4pm

IMPACT, Engineers Without Borders’ volunteering team, works with nonprofits across SLO County to carry on the tradition of thinking globally and acting locally. IMPACT organizes volunteering events that unite EWB members and fellow Cal Poly students with local nonprofits dedicated to the community EWB Cal Poly knows and loves. This quarter we will be researching ways to improve our annual EWB IMPACT Weekend that is scheduled for the end of winter quarter. Meetings are held Wednesdays 3:10-4:00 pm on the second floor of the library near Julians. There will be donuts!

WISH Roborodentia Team

Like to build stuff? Think robots are cool? Enjoy competition and destroying your opponents? Then Roborodentia is the event for you! Roborodentia is an annual robotics competition where Cal Poly students build autonomous robots and compete against each other in a challenge. Women and People of Color in STEM Panel and Discussion Session
When: 2/14/19, 3:10pm - 4:30pm
Where: UU 220

Cal Poly students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend a panel session and discussion about current issues facing women and people of color in STEM fields. A panel session will comprise the first half of the event, and the second half of the event will be organized into small group discussions, where students can engage with panelists, faculty, and staff. The event will end with final words from the panelists. Panelists Professor Louise Edwards, Physics Professor Foaad Khosmood, Computer Science Associate Dean Camille O’Bryant, College of Science and Mathematics Professor Lizabeth Schlemer, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Professor Francis Villablanca, Biology.

6. AthenaHacks
When: April 6-7, 2019
Where: University of Southern California

Applications to attend AthenaHacks are open! AthenaHacks is Southern California’s premier all-female hackathon (trans and non-binary inclusive). This year, we will be sending a bus to Cal Poly SLO to transport hackers to & from USC.

We will provide you with food, networking, technical and professional workshops, and a speaker series for you to explore tech and hack the weekend away! Our sponsors in attendance include Microsoft, Google, Activision, and Smartcar, and we'll have thousands of dollars worth of prizes to compete for. No experience is necessary! All majors and skill levels are welcome. We will have the tools, mentorship, and workshops to help you get started with your project.

7. Consumer Electronics Society: Tesla Factory Tour
Join us on a tour of the Tesla factory on February 22! We will be leaving Cal Poly at 11 AM on Friday, and going on an official tour of the Fremont facility at 3 PM. 8. Palantir's Women in Technology Scholarship

This year, 10 scholarship recipients will be chosen and invited to visit our headquarters in Palo Alto for a full-day, all-expenses paid developmental workshop. Programming will include professional development sessions, breakouts with our engineers, and some fun social activities! All recipients are awarded grants of $7,000 to support their education.
