1. CENG Diversity & Inclusion Speaker Series
When: Thursday, March 12
Time: 11am
Where: ATL

Cal Poly grad to discuss his journey from undocumented immigrant to Apple engineer:
Alumnus Enrique Diaz’s life story is fit for film. The 48-year-old retiree was born in Mexico and arrived in the US when he was only two. Growing up in a challenging environment, Diaz worked several manual labor agriculture jobs before attending Cal Poly as a computer science major. He later went on to work for Apple, Inc. straight after college, and after immense success as a research and development scientist, retired at age 46.

Diaz will be discussing his journey from the Central Valley to Silicon Valley as part of the College of Engineering’s Diversity and Inclusion Speaker Series.

2. The Northrop Grumman Collaboration Project (NGCP)
The Northrop Grumman Collaboration Project (NGCP) is an interdisciplinary student-driven project where teams design and build autonomous vehicles. We are actively looking for students interested in cybersecurity, computer science, front and back end development, user interface to join our teams. Specifically, we need several students to create the Ground Control System that autonomously operates the vehicles, allows to design the mission, and displays the mission information on the screen. No prior experience is needed, we welcome anyone willing to learn and dedicate time to the project!

3. Roborodentia 2020
Roborodentia 2020 is here!  Roborodentia is Cal Poly's annual robotics competition held in the Spring quarter.  This is a competition of autonomous robots where the winner receives a prize of $1,000.

4. Twitter 2020 #TakeFlight Spring Camps
Twitter is hosting interactive on-site events for historically underrepresented students in computer science. Participants will participate in hands-on technical workshops, professional development seminars, meet with senior leaders, engage with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and explore career opportunities at Twitter.

There are three programs you can apply to:
·         #EarlyBird: A five-day program for first year computer science students who identify as black, Hispanic/Latinx and/or Native American.
·         #DevelopHER: A two-day program for second year computer science students who identify as women.
·         #TechProud: A two-day program for second year computer science students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA).

5. The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education
When: Sat 4/18/20
Where: UCLA.

The Forum is an all-day FREE event designed to provide students from minoritized & underrepresented groups with the opportunity to explore research-based graduate education programs in all disciplines.

Workshops include:

How to Select, Apply to & Prepare for Graduate School
Demystifying the GRE
Role of Undergraduate Research in Graduate Admissions
Identifying Challenges and Finding Community for AB 540 and Undocumented Students
How to Write a Winning Statement of Purpose
How to Finance Your Graduate Education
PLUS: a Graduate Recruitment Fair with 200+ recruiters!

Students who register will be provided with transportation to & from Cal Poly via charter bus and all meals at NO cost.

A charter bus will leave Cal Poly at 4:00 am the morning of the forum and return the same day once the forum concludes.

Celebration of Women in Computing (CWIC) is a one-day event where the Women in Computing community of Southern California come together to network, host workshops, present research, share stories with one another and of course, have fun. 10. App Development Opportunity
We are working on a senior project to create an app that is an all-inclusive connection, support, and resource center for survivors of sexual violence and abuse. We have a lot of research and content completed that has shaped the concept of our app, but are still looking for someone to develop the app itself. We are looking for an individual or individuals who are passionate about helping this population and making a difference for the better. Working on this project would qualify as a senior project for Spring Quarter.

11. CPE Tutoring Services
The Writing and Learning Center, located in Kennedy Library 111C, offers one-to-one and group tutoring in Computer Engineering. Tutors are available to offer general help as well as specific support for the courses listed below. Also note that the center hosts a Math and Statistics Help Hub every Monday through Thursday, 3 - 7 pm, as well as drop-in tutoring hours for CENG core support courses on Thursdays from 4 - 6 pm.
