2. Local Career Fair | February 2 | 9:30am – 1:30pm | Building 65

Are you interested in staying in SLO this summer, or living here after you graduate? Don't miss the chance to network with 57 local businesses who are seeking Cal Poly students to join their teams, whether it be for internships, summer, part-time or full-time jobs! We have had an incredible response from employers wishing to participate, making this our largest Local Career Fair ever!  We encourage students of all majors to stop by and check it out.  See the attachment for a current list of attending employers. There are two worksheets in the attached Excel file—one has all of the companies attending and positions they listed and the other worksheet has only those companies/positions that would be of more interest to CENG students wanting to do work related to engineering/software. Please note that we are continuing to receive new registrations every day!  The updated list will be available on Handshake.

The Career Fair will be held Thursday, February 2 in Chumash Auditorium, building 65. Dress code is business professional.

EVENT AGENDA:
9:30 am.  Doors open to students
9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Network with employers

PREPARING FOR THE CAREER FAIR:
Research employers.  See attachment for the full list of employers or visit the event page on Handshake and use the filters to find companies who are hiring for roles that you are interested in. To view job descriptions, click on Jobs, and then and then enter keywords such as the employer’s name.
Note that a special Making the Most of the Local Career Fair workshop is being offered on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:10 pm in Building 171A, Aliso Conference Room, Poly Canyon Village.
Have your resume critiqued by a Career Counselor before the fair during drop-in hours, FasTrak, or by appointment. Check out our interview tips and prepare for common questions. Make sure your professional attire is ready to go.

5. Important information on the Winter Career Fair and Networking Sessions

There are many opportunities for College of Engineering students to network with employers next week at the Winter Career Fair as well as several networking sessions.

Currently, there are 169 companies signed up to attend the Winter Career Fair on January 25 and 26at the Rec Center. Attached is an Excel spreadsheet listing those employers attending the Winter Career Fair who specified openings when they registered for the career fair. The “Job Types” column will inform you of the employment type they are seeking—Internship or Job (for upcoming/recent grads).  Please be aware that not all companies attending the career fair posted positions when they registered for the event so those employers will not be listed on the attached spreadsheet. For a complete list of employers attending the Winter Career Fair, please login to MustangJOBS/Handshake via the Cal Poly Portal and click on Search Fairs on the left-hand side of your screen, click on the Winter Career Fair and then on the View Employers button.

If you are interested in working for Apple, Cisco, or Lockheed Martin, they have special networking events next week (they are also attending the Winter Career Fair). Please see the attached flyers for more information about these networking events.

If you need help preparing for the Winter Career Fair (resume review, elevator pitch practice, etc.), please plan to attend FasTrak (drop-in service) on Mondays through Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Career Services (Building 124, upstairs in Room 224). During FasTrak students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis for 15 minutes maximum.

5. Eta Kappa Nu? Eta Kappa You!

The EE and ECE departments are working together to bring Eta Kappa Nu, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Honor Society, back to campus! This organization was founded over 100 years ago to honor hard working and otherwise exceptional engineers in our technical areas. It is also an organization dedicated to service, and members often engage in activities like tutoring, outreach, event planning, and you name it! To bring the organization back, we'll need the help of a few dedicated students to take on initial leadership roles in the club. If you're a sophomore, junior, senior, or masters student and think you might be interested in helping to get the Cal Poly chapter up and running again, please email Professor Danowitz (adanowit@calpoly.edu).
