1. CPE Office STILL Needs Mentors for Fall 2017
The CPE Office is in the process of recruiting CPE Mentors for this coming Fall 2017. We are looking for 40 - 45 motivated students to mentor the incoming freshmen (as part of their CPE100 course) during the 2017 fall quarter.  We've gotten positive feedback from students who have participated in the past. And all you need in order to be a successful mentor is a desire to have fun and help others.

Change of Major Workshop

If you are interested in changing your major into or within a major in the College of Engineering, it is highly recommended that you attend a change of major workshop.
The Engineering Change of Major Workshop (offered 4 times during Fall quarter; dates below) will include: an overview of each of the 13 undergraduate majors in the College of Engineering, provide additional career exploration resources, summarize change of major requirements by major and will conclude with a question and answer session with the College of Engineering academic adviser and career counselor.

Come visit CPEs for our event with GE Digital. This will be an excellent opportunity to have your resume reviewed and to network with people within the industry.

Microsoft Workshop:

Come visit CPEs for our event with Microsoft. The company will be visiting us to come teach the club about React, a web development framework. This is an all skill-levels event!

Hungry? Come to De Vaul Park to hang out with CPEs! This is a purely social event in which we will be grilling up some food for you guys. Come hang out with us!

1. Career Fair Workshop

Description: Join WISH for a resume workshop to go through some techniques to ensure that your resume is ready for the Career Fair!

2. "What Can I Do with My Computing Major?" Panel
When: Monday 9/25, 6:00pm-8:00pm

Description: Don't know what computing field to specialize in, feel intimidated by tech talks, or looking for a job? Come hear panelists from Google, GE Digital, Raytheon, Autodesk, and Kaiser Permanente speak about their experiences in school and in industry. Engineers and recruiters will be available for questions and networking after the panel. Food will be provided (we'll be having Chipotle!)

3. Andreessen Horowitz Lunch and Learn

Description: Cal Poly Entrepreneurs and WISH are hosting a lunch and learn session with Andreessen Horowitz. Come hear about what they do and positions that they are hiring for! There will be food! 

4. Lunch and Learn with Microsoft

Description: WISH and Microsoft will be having a networking session with lunch! Come learn about roles and applying at Microsoft and meet and mingle with some alumni who now work there. We will be having Chipotle!

5. NASA JPL Tech Talk

Description: WISH is hosting a tech talk with engineers from NASA JPL. Come out for some free pizza and learn about NASA JPL! Everyone is welcome to attend!

5. Roborodentia Club Meeting | Anyone Interested Welcome | Sept 28 | 11am

Roborodentia is looking for officers for our club, and all, including freshmen, are encouraged to join. You may be asking yourself 'what is Roborodentia?' We are a club that hosts an annual autonomous robotics competition held during Open House in spring quarter. We do everything from creating the rules and designing the game board to hosting and running the event.

If you are interested in being an officer (freshman are welcome!), please stop by the EE conference room (bldg. 20A-206) on Thursday 9/28 at 11am during UU hour. Free Pizza!  If you have any other questions about us, please contact our club president Derek Nola at dnola@calpoly.edu."

·  The Computing Career Fair is a unique opportunity to meet and network with companies interested in connecting with Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, and Information Systems students. You will have the opportunity to meet with prospective employers, give out your resume, and discuss career, summer, and internship opportunities. Be prepared for interviews during the Open Forum and/or next-day interviews.
·  Bring your resume and dress professionally. 
·         Shuttle Transportation: Career Services will offer continuous free shuttle service to meet the transportation needs of all Cal Poly students.  Shuttle service runs continuously about every 30 minutes from Cal Poly to the Madonna Expo Center.   Pick-up location is in front of the Cal Poly Natatorium, building 46 at the corner of S. Perimeter Road and College Avenue.  Shuttle service starts at 4:00 p.m. on campus and the last shuttle leaves at 9:00 p.m. from the Madonna Inn Expo Center to Cal Poly campus.  
·         Get your resume in the hands of employers with the 2017 Computing Career Fair Opt-in Resume Book
o    2017 Computing Career Fair Opt-in Resume Book features resumes from Cal Poly students and alumni who are seeking internship and full-time opportunities. Adding your resume to the book is a great way to enhance your job search and makes it easy for employers to contact (and hire!) you. This book is provided to select companies and organizations attending the 2017 Computing Career Fair that have paid for this service.
o    These employers will be able to search the resume book to look for students and alumni to fill their job openings. They may then contact you directly to discuss the position they have listed or to inquire as to whether you are interested in interviewing.
o    To be a part of the 2017 Computing Career Fair Opt-in Resume Book, login to MustangJOBS/Handshake, click on "Jobs," enter keywords "2017 Computing Career Fair Resume Book," and then click on "Apply Now" button.
o    Resumes must be submitted to the 2017 Computing Career Fair Opt-in Resume Book no later thanTuesday, October 10, 2017.

7. DIVERSITY FUNDING COMMITTEE FALL APPLICATION CYCLE

Career Services launched the Diversity Funding Committee (DFC) in Spring 2017 to support diversity and inclusion efforts on campus.  Any Cal Poly department or university-sponsored student, staff, or faculty organization can apply for funding to support campus events that increase understanding of and/or appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

The current funding cycle is the DFC's pilot year and we do have limited funds; however, we expect to fund multiple organizations with awards ranging between $250 and $1250 each.

The DFC runs three application cycles per year (fall, winter, and spring).  The fall application cycle funds campus events that will take place by the end of Winter 2018.  The application is available now and will be due October 6, 2017 at 4 p.m.  To learn more and apply, please visit the DFC website.

8.  Student Co-Op Assignments Available at the Santa Clara Valley Water District

Interested in learning about industrial power systems and process control systems? The Santa Clara Valley Water District has undergraduate or graduate student co-op available to support our Utility Electrical and Control Systems Unit. The Santa Clara Valley Water District is the primary water resources agency for Santa Clara County. This co-op offers a great opportunity to learn about the industrial electrical and control system infrastructure required for water treatment and water distribution. Typical assignments involve: organizing electrical and/or control documentation and data spreadsheets, bench testing equipment, verifying drawings and field conditions, and completing other general office work, as needed.

9. Tory Bruno (United Launch Alliance) Presentation 10/2

Cal Poly alumnus, and President and CEO of United Launch Alliance Tory Bruno, will be on campus Monday October 2. As part of the visit, there will be a presentation open to all students from 11:10-12 in the ATL. Mr. Bruno is always an engaging and informative speaker. We want to make sure the ATL is as full as possible.

#981711 Electrical and Computer Engineering - Electronic & Computer Lab Support Assistant

Electrical Engineering announces job opportunities for Undergrads and Graduate students who meet the qualifications to work as lecture/lab assistants and graders in a variety of classes.

Undergraduate students apply as Instructional Student Assistants (ISA). An ISA will provide tutoring, grading, or instruction to other CSU students for 50% or more of their work hours in a given appointment in a given academic department or equivalent administrative unit over the course of an academic term. In this appointment, the incumbent will provide student support in labs, grading, test proctoring, and overall classroom support for Electrical Engineering lectures and labs. Please see below for faculty looking for graders/lab assistants who fulfill these criteria.

The minimum qualification for an Instructional Student Assistant is admission or registration as a CSU student as well as meeting the requested criteria for the class for which you are providing support. Please check with the jobs listed below for additional minimum qualifications as specified by each Professor. The University reserves the sole discretion to override the minimum qualifications.

To apply for these positions please contact the Professor associated with the classes on the attached list (list updated periodically). Once the Professor approves acceptance of your application the professor will contact the Administrative Analyst for the Electrical Engineering Department requesting completion of the application procedure. The applicant also contacts the Department Administrative Analyst with their name and employee ID for the completion of the application. Supervisory directions will come directly from the Professor of the class.

The hiring criteria are dependent on the applicants qualifications and successful interview with the professor. Hours to work will not exceed 20 hours per week. The rate of pay is $12.50 per hour for Undergrads and $14.00 per hour for Graduate Students.

17. 2018 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize Application

I hope that you had a great summer and are enjoying the beginning of the new school year! This is a friendly reminder that the 2018 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize Initial Application deadline of September 29, 2017 is fast approaching. We would be delighted if you could please share this information with your networks and encourage eligible students to apply, if you have not done so already.

The Lemelson-MIT Student Prize is a national invention competition that recognizes individual graduate students who have tested prototypes of two or more inventions and teams of undergraduate students with a tested prototype of one invention.

The competition is open to full-time, degree-seeking students (as of the spring semester of 2018) with technology-based inventions in healthcare, food/water and agriculture, transportation, and consumer devices. Inventions are not limited to class projects or thesis work, and any side/personal projects could also be considered. Patents are encouraged but not required. In each of the four categories, graduate students are awarded $15,000 and undergraduate teams are awarded $10,000.

Please help spread the word and encourage inventive students to apply by either forwarding this message or referring a student directly to me, and I would be happy to follow up.
