Job Opportunity: Keysight, R&D Engineer

Job Description: Design Keysight products and specifies the components that make up the products. Designs and develops products, components, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts and research techniques. Documents research and design specifications. Solves complex and high impact design and development problems including customer application issue of varying scope and complexity. May facilitate transition of product design and enhancements to full production/delivery. May lead product definition/system design for complex features or coordinate a small group in feature development and integration. Software: Designs, develops, tests and debugs software programs, products and tools required for the operation and control of programmable products and systems, and programs for dedicated Keysight products and services through the entire product life cycle from customer requirement definition to product shipment and post-sales support. Firmware/embedded software engineers design, develop, test and debug embedded application software and/or firmware that will drive controls and control systems for company products, typically involving analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. May develop algorithms to align and calibrate equipment. May design and execute test plans to ensure new firmware meets specifications, functionalities and performance requirements. Monitors industry trends for technological evolutions and leverages appropriate technology.
Job Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters Degree or University Degree or equivalent. Typically 4-5 years relevant experience for entry to this level. Requires in-depth knowledge and experience in job and ability to work independently.

MyHomePT Team Member Opportunity
MyHomePT, a CPConnect-funded project, is searching for a team member with an interest in hardware/software. Our team is designing a wearable physical therapy compliance device (i.e. Fitbit for physical therapy) and is currently conducting our proof of concept.  We will be primarily using Raspberry Pi and Arduino, so an interest in coding is a MUST. With our prototype, we are looking to compete in Innovation Quest and potentially continue on to create our startup.

This is a unique 6-week summer program for undergraduates and recent graduates interested in tech leadership. The program focuses on all the cutting-edge technology topics such as big data, artificial intelligence, product development, and UX/UI. The program is held on UCLA campus, from June 25 – August 3.

EE CAMP 2018,    June 18-22 (week after spring finals)

If you are interested in being part of the organizational group for EE Camp 2018, please meet in Dr. Derickson's office (20A-200) on Tuesday, March 13 at 6PM.   This is a Day Camp for Jr High and Sr. High students.   We just received a grant for $10,000 of VEX robotics kits that we can use as part of the camp.     First year student are especially welcomed to be a part of the organizational group.   EE camp counselors design and implement the entire camp.   We charge students $250 per week.  Counselors are paid.

IEEE: DIY Portable Charger Workshop
Date: Saturday, March 3rd, 2018
Time: 11 AM to 2 PM
Location: 20-115 (IEEE Collaboration Lab) and 20-116

Want to build your own portable charger? It’s small in size, practical, super easy, and super fun to make. You can even decorate the case however you want. It can take as little as fifteen minutes to make your own portable charger.
The Cal Poly IEEE Student Branch and Cal Poly Consumer Electronics Society (CESoc) are partnering to host a workshop where you can walk away with your own power bank and learn how to solder electronics.
No skills are required, and anyone is welcome to attend.
To join, please sign up for this event at calpolyieee.com/events/diy-portable-phone-charger/. Space is limited to the first twenty-five people who sign up. In addition, the first two people to attend can even get a free footlong USB to micro USB cable. Those who didn’t or couldn’t sign up can drop-in during the workshop, but are welcome to make a power bank on an available basis.

For $10 a person, not only do you get to make your own the power bank, but you can also get FREE pizza for attending.

Amazon Software Presentations: Amazon's senior software engineers will be giving 2 presentations in a few weeks! The first topic will cover designing a production-grade mobile application, including error handling, metrics, measuring success, tips & tricks, and best practices. The second will cover a day in the life of an Amazonian, covering software development process, release management, agile methodology, and operations. There will be time for Q&A.

Rock Climbing at The Pad SLO!

Come destress and climb at the new Pad SLO (formally SLO-Op Climbing!) The gym is four times the size of the previous, which includes bouldering and top rope walls!
