Come hear from a panel of Cal Poly alum and engineers about the unique experiences faced by underrepresented minorities in engineering! A reflective dialogue will follow. Food is provided! This event is co-hosted by Women Involved in Software and Hardware (WISH), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).

The Computer and Electrical Showcase will take place during Open House on Saturday. Our booth will be using drawable circuits to give attendees an opportunity to spark interest in technical majors as well as careers in technical fields. It will be a great way to volunteer and get involved in WISH so look out for more volunteer information!

Engineers Without Boarders Events
Sustainability Task Force: Do you want to improve EWB? Sustainability Task Force (STF) is open to everyone and is a space to identify problems in EWB and collectively create solutions to improve our club. Join our team Mondays 6-7pm in 10-231!
 
Project Meetings: Feel free to try out different project teams and be sure to introduce yourselves to the PMs if you’re new to EWB! Here are the team room locations every Monday from 7:00-9:00pm

IMPACT: meets Tuesday 11-12pm in the library fishbowl 216Q. IMPACT, Engineers Without Borders’ volunteering team, works with nonprofits across SLO County to carry on the tradition of thinking globally and acting locally. We have our campus wide volunteering event at the end of quarter, come join our team to make it happen!
 
General Meeting: Officer Board Meet n Greet is this Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm, Business building 3-205.
This week’s general meeting is an opportunity to hear about team Fiji’s trip and also chat with this year’s officer board to learn about each officer board position! Elections for next year’s officer board are in a few weeks, come chat with us about running for a position!
 
Tea Time:  time to chat with the president and vice president about anything and everything. It’s basically open office hours and we’d love to see you! It’s every Thursday 11am-12pm. We will be in a fishbowl 216K on the 2nd floor of the lib. Look for our EWB shirts/boxes of tea!

Data Scientist Position for Recent Grads

Job Description Summary: The Business Technology Solutions (BTS) Data Science Analyst is a member of a highly-motivated BTS team responsible for partnering with multiple IT and business divisions to evaluate, understand and deliver solutions for complex business problems. The BTS Data Science Analyst incorporates the latest developments in Data Science (statistical modeling, machine learning, simulation and advanced visualization) to solve complex business problems. The Data Science Analyst will be able to identify a methodology to answer a business question, gather relevant data from multiple sources and evaluate its quality, perform exploratory data analysis and visualization, applied statistical methods to reach a reproducible answer, and present results that are usable in the context of clients business The position will report to the assigned divisional BTS Manager or Lead.

Responsibilities
Gather Data and make it available and understandable to consumers and team members. Apply advanced statistical methods for classification and prediction, including machine learning methods. Summarize results in business-friendly formats, and provide alternative levels of detail depending on business audiences. Anticipate questions from business partners and share data insights on an ongoing basis.

Required Capabilities
Minimum 3 years working in a Data Science/Business Analytics role with significant client exposure.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a Mathematics or Science field, Computer Science of Business Management fields preferred.
Experience successfully implementing analytical solutions with real-world business impact.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
Demonstrate initiative and ownership of tasks and projects.
Ability to prioritize, coordinate and complete tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to work effectively both independently and in team environments.
Proficiency using R, Python, Stata, SAS, Matlab or similar mathematical programming languages for advanced predictive modeling and visualization. Experience using BI platfoms such as PowerBI, Tableau or Qlik. Experience with Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience with Simulation modeling (System Dynamics, Agent-Based Simulation or Discrete Event Simulation) preferred. Experience with Deep Learning methods and applications (Keras, Torch, TensorFlow, Theano, or others) preferred. Experience with Natural Language Processing methods and applications preferred.
