We've gotten positive feedback from students who have participated in the past. And all you need in order to be a successful mentor is a desire to have fun and help others.
If you are interested, please add your name to the Mentor list found at:

Volunteers Needed for the California Cyber Innovation Challenge
The California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI), a Cal Poly Partner, is gearing up for this year’s California Cyber Innovation Challenge taking place June 22-25 at Camp San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly and wanted to invite the entire Computer Engineering family to participate. The CCIC is a statewide high school cybersecurity competition designed to introduce more students to the field of cybersecurity. This year’s challenge will take place in a medical office scenario at the CCI and focus on both the ethical and technical issues of a Ransomware attack on a medical facility. This year we are hoping to recruit more volunteers, as the event has grown since last yearThis will be a great opportunity to network with cybersecurity professionals and companies, complete philanthropic work, visit Camp San Luis Obispo, or add to your resume. We really appreciate you taking the time to help our cause, we wouldn't be able to do this without your help!

Summer Research Opportunity
Summer 2018 On-Campus Research Opportunity with Dr. Oleg Kogan (Dept. of
Physics)
Overview
Biological physics, interdisciplinary physics. My current main research thrust is on modeling of long-range transport of spores by the atmosphere.
Possible Projects
I have a basic model which I published recently in Phys Rev E, and I would like to expand this model in various directions. A part of this work involves running some fairly straightforward computer code, and possibly some analytical work if a student is interested and/or able to participate in it. The set of interesting problems is quite large, and this can be a very exciting source of both really interesting interdisciplinary physics (linking physics and population biology) and mathematics. The project can be either quite applied (related to plant pathology or ecology), or more abstract (concerning front propagation in disordered environments).
Minimum Requirements
It would be preferable that a student has some familiarity with differential equations, and a working proficiency in some computer language.
Dates to Work in Summer 2018
The whole summer, possibly blending into longer-term research (ex: senior project).
If you are interested, please send an email to Dr. Kogan (okogan@calpoly.edu) stating your interest and including your resume.
