1. SLO Hacks 2020
SLO Hacks 2020, Cal Poly's
largest student-run hackathon, is happening on February 28-March 1! If you’ve
ever wanted to create an app, design your dream game, or practice your pitching
skills, this is the event for you. We'll also have a lot of opportunities to
network and even find an internship/full-time job with our corporate sponsors.
We accept all majors and skill levels, and hope that you’re excited for 36
hours of making your ideas come to life.
Applications close TODAY, February 7th.

2. NEW CLUB: Computing for Developing Countries and Marginalized
People
80%
of the world population and 99% of global growth is in developing
countries. Common challenges facing these communities include poverty,
nutrition, health, education, economic vulnerability, violence against women,
water/sanitation, energy, pollution, climate change. There are many
existing groups doing great work on addressing these problems. However, most of
these groups are not focused on utilizing computing and emerging technologies,
including many of the recent advances in computing. We are forming a new
interdisciplinary group at Cal Poly to address this gap.
We are looking for
excited students to become the founding members of the club. Anyone, including
freshman and sophomores, are invited to join and become a club officer. This
club is primarily addressing the lack of EE/CPE/CSC major-related project-based
groups but ALL majors are welcome and encouraged to join. Not
only is this a great resume builder, but it’s also a great outlet to use your
academic skill set to participate in real projects helping real people.

3. CENG CPx Dialog Sessions
The College of Engineering
invites you to attend a dialog session about the results of the CPx survey
conducted last spring.
CENG Dialogue #2 –
Creating Community and Tracking Progress
Friday, February 14,
1:00pm-3:00pm in ATL (building 007)
These workshop-style
events intend to help us collectively process the results from the CPx survey
and generate ideas on how we can take action to foster a more just, equitable,
diverse and inclusive college community. The ideas generated as part of these listening
sessions will be incorporated into the College of Engineering Justice, Equity,
Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan and will hold us accountable to each
other. The session is open to all members of the college community. While we
encourage you to attend both sessions, we understand that some may only be able
to attend one.
