Drawable Circuits with Morro Bay HS Students

WISH will be participating in a drawable circuit activity at Morro Bay High School where we will teach their Women in Engineering club how to make circuits with a conductive ink pen, LED lights, batteries, and a piece of paper! If you are unfamiliar with how to make LED circuits, don't worry! They are fairly easy to make and learn. This event will be on Friday, October 14th from 12:00-1:15pm. 4-Week Coding Class with Pacheo Elementary

WISH is collaborating with Pacheco Elementary School to host a 4-week event to teach their students how to code with Code.org (in a language similar to Scratch), starting Oct. 10th. CSC Dept. Tutoring Center
Cal Poly's Computer Science Department offers tutoring, free of charge, for all students taking CSC courses. We offer help on all scheduled evenings for students in CSC/CPE 101, 102, 103, or 141. We also do our best to cater to the demand of 357. If you need help outside of class and your professor's office hours, the tutoring service is for you.
Tutoring is offered in 14-302 from Sunday through Thursday, 7-9pm except for holidays starting Sunday, September 25. Please be prompt. If no students are present within the first 15 minutes, the tutors will leave.

8. RFID Club Activities
Club description: The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) club is a multidisciplinary club that perform RFID projects. RFID is a rapidly growing technology which has many uses including consumer interactive marketing, embedded electronics, inventory tracking, access control, and counterfeit prevention. Many top companies have some sort of RFID within their business structure or products. As a CPE, you play a huge role working with both the hardware and the software side. Joining RFID is a great way to practice what you’ve learned in class and apply to many practical projects from industries. We also offer many opportunities to mingle with industry. We are currently seeking individuals with coding and electronics knowledge to help with our many projects.

9. ACM International Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC) Sign-ups
The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is a multi-tier, team-based, programming competition. It is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.
Cal Poly's ICPC team is looking for students who are interested in competing this year, or interested in being trained for future competitions. We will meet for 5 weeks, starting this week, on Fridays from 6-9pm, until the day of the competition on November 12th this year. The location is TBA and will be announced later this week.

10. CPConnect Project Funding Opportunity
The Cal Poly Interdisciplinary Projects Program (CPConnect) facilitates donor sponsored interdisciplinary projects for faculty and students. Our mission is to provide a link between donors and resources that are available at Cal Poly to ensure that projects are properly funded and have the technical expertise required for completion. All projects that enable students to explore the integration of technologies to solve problems will be considered. Proposals can include funding for equipment, materials/supplies, and travel to conferences, competitions, and project sponsors. The typical range for requested funds should be in the $500 to $5,000 range. We anticipate funding 5-10 projects each quarter. For more details, see the attached Request for Project Proposals, or go to the CPConnect website at https://cpconnect.calpoly.edu/. Please note that proposals must be submitted using the "Proposal Template”, which can be found on the CPConnect website. Applications are due October 31st.

11. Baker/Koob Endowment Proposals
The Warren J. Baker and Robert D. Koob Endowments have funds to support student proposed projects for hands-on, project-based learning opportunities. The endowments will have $28,500 available to distribute to support student proposals. The typical range for successful project grants is $1,000 to $2,500 for individuals and $1,000 to $5,000 for group projects.
All proposals are reviewed by a faculty committee representing the six Cal Poly colleges. Past awards have included student projects in a wide range of academic programs and on a diversity of ideas. This fall’s deadline for proposals is Monday, November 14, 2016. Winners will be announced before the holidays and projects can begin in January. Students have one year to complete their projects.

12. Engineering Ambassadors are NOW Recruiting
JOIN ENGINEERING AMBASSADORS!
The College of Engineering Ambassadors are engineering students from all years and all majors, who actively represent the College. Ambassadors present the College, its programs, and its students to industry representatives, alumni, parents, and prospective students through tours of the College of Engineering and tours of specific departments within the College. This club will allow you to practice and perfect your leadership skills, public speaking, and professionalism. These information sessions will present what the club does in more detail and how you can apply! You must attend one information session in order to apply to be an Engineering Ambassador. Applications will be handed out during these information sessions.
